i had really thought my leaf days for the year were over, but then i found these. i’m not sure where exactly they came from and didn’t have time to look around to figure it out, because i was already running late to work. i picked it up and speed-walked to the ubahn station. regardless, i think they’re pleasant leaves.

there is not all too much to say about these leaves, aside from the fact that it bothers me that they are not, in any version of primary colors, primary colors. unfortunately, that would only be made possible by a blue leaf. i have never seen a blue leaf but, well, all sorts of things exist that i have never seen. maybe one day.

i really, truly didn’t mean for any of these leaves to fall off the stem. i never do. but two fell off when i was carrying them and getting a franzbrötchen on my way to catch the ubahn this morning and then the rest fell off when i was cleaning them before i scanned them. i always try to clean my leaves before i scan them, for fear of leaving dirt behind on the scanner and potentially scratching the glass. i doubt my office manager would appreciate that.

i really, truly didn’t mean to break that little leaf. but, you see, the thing is that i though the two bottom most leaves were lost, gone forever until i found them sitting on the floor under my desk chair at work. i picked them up and scanned the whole thing all over again, but only after spending all day walking on them and rolling over them with my chair, it seems. all’s well that ends well, i suppose. these leaves are quite delicate.

as soon as i picked these leaves up off the ground, two of them fell off of the stem. i had intended to scan them first thing in the morning to capture the bright yellow, orange, red, but i didn't get around to it and instead scanned them in the mid afternoon. this quicker aging of the detached leaves is a known phenomenon, no new observation, but to be reminded of it is sort of beautiful. it made me think.

this leaf was quite wet and when i dried it off with a paper towel, the paper towel turned a little bit red.
